Terence Disdale Design
Terence Disdale Design is a UK-based studio founded by one of yachting's most revered designers, a protégé of Jon Bannenberg, known for creating some of the world's largest yachts including Eclipse and Pelorus with a signature 'beach house not penthouse' aesthetic.
From Bannenberg's Studio to Design Icon
Terence Disdale stands as one of the most respected figures in superyacht design, despite having no formal training in the field. His career began in what is famously termed the 'Chelsea University'—the studio of the late Jon Bannenberg, where he honed his craft alongside contemporaries Andrew Winch and Tim Heywood. Based in Richmond upon Thames, his studio operates with a team of 15, producing designs that have shaped the superyacht landscape for decades.
Defining the 'Beach House' Aesthetic
The studio's guiding philosophy is best captured by its mantra: "Beach house not Penthouse". Disdale believes many yacht interiors err on the side of excessive formality; his approach champions refreshingly casual yet chic environments that prioritize comfort and liveability. This philosophy has proven remarkably successful, attracting owners who seek understated elegance rather than ostentatious display. The studio handles both interior and exterior design, ensuring complete creative coherence from hull to headboard.
Portfolio of Giants
Terence Disdale Design's portfolio reads like a who's who of the world's most significant yachts. Among the longest vessels afloat, the studio has designed motor yachts including the 162m Eclipse, 115m Pelorus, 92m Tatoosh, and the 147m Topaz (now A+). Other notable projects include Al Salamah, Ecstasea, Montkaj, Kogo, Boadicea, Kibo (now Grace), and Romea. This concentration of large-scale projects demonstrates the trust placed in Disdale by the world's most discerning owners and the industry's premier shipyards like Lürssen and Blohm+Voss.
