Giorgio Vafiadis

Giorgio Vafiadis is an internationally recognized interior designer who contributed to Egypt's first domestically built 37m luxury yacht, a milestone project supervised by RINA and designed by Fryco Yachts.

International Designer in Egypt's Maritime Milestone

Giorgio Vafiadis is a yacht interior designer of international stature, selected to bring luxury accommodation design to a landmark project in the Egyptian maritime sector. In November 2025, the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, in collaboration with South Red Sea Shipyard (SRSS), launched Egypt's first domestically built 37m motor yacht. While the naval architecture and unique exterior concept originated from the American firm Fryco Yachts, the interior design—comprising a full-beam master suite, four guest cabins, and crew quarters—was entrusted to Giorgio Vafiadis. The project was supervised and certified by the Italian classification society RINA, underscoring the international quality standards applied.

Scope and Significance

This 37m yacht, powered by a 2,600hp MTU engine, represents a strategic initiative to establish a 'Made in Egypt' label for regional and export markets. Vafiadis's role in this high-visibility government-backed project signals his reputation for delivering sophisticated, RINA-compliant interiors outside the traditional European shipbuilding hubs. His contribution was integral to proving that Egyptian shipyards could compete on luxury amenities and design finesse. The project also included concurrent builds of 18m yachts and 17m pleasure boats, further expanding the country's production portfolio.

Design Approach

While specific aesthetic signatures of Vafiadis on this vessel remain proprietary, his selection by a consortium involving Italian classification and American naval design indicates a designer capable of cross-cultural, high-specification work. The project places him among a select group of international interior designers active in emerging yacht-building regions, demonstrating that luxury yacht design is no longer confined to the traditional Mediterranean and Northern European axis.
