Francois Catroux

Francois Catroux, 1993 Interior Design Hall of Fame inductee, was an internationally renowned French interior designer whose superyacht portfolio includes the 96m Lürssen Limitless (1997) and the 93m Lürssen sailing yacht Eos, applying his signature blend of elegance, refinement, and timeless quality to maritime environments.

Hall of Fame Interior Designer

Francois Catroux was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 1993, recognized for dignifying the profession with grace and artistry over a career spanning more than four decades . His work, primarily residential with occasional forays into transportation, proved that elegance and timelessness require a coherent, fully integrated artistic vision. Catroux's interiors succeeded because they flattered and reflected occupants' personalities, never sacrificing comfort to mere glamour .

Superyacht Commissions

Catroux's yacht design portfolio includes two significant Lürssen projects. The 96m motor yacht Limitless, launched in 1997, featured interiors by Catroux and was at the time the largest privately owned yacht in America . Conceptualized by the office of Jon Bannenberg, Limitless pioneered diesel-electric propulsion for superyachts. Catroux also designed the interior of the 93m three-masted schooner Eos, one of the world's largest private sailing yachts, also built by Lürssen .

Beyond yachting, Catroux's remarkable career included commissions for the Shah of Iran, King Hussein of Jordan, various Rothschilds, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Barry Diller. He designed spaces for a Boeing 727 and a high-speed train for French Railways . His work, characterized by deft handling of volumes, surfaces, and proportions, created lasting quality that remains undated and uncopied .
