Margherita Casprini
Florentine architect Margherita Casprini designs luxurious and surprising superyacht interiors, collaborating with Francesco Paszkowski Design on projects for shipyards like Baglietto.
Margherita Casprini is a Florentine architect whose motto is to surprise the owners she works with. A graduate in architecture with a thesis on Renzo Piano's 60-foot 'Kirribilli,' Casprini has specialized in designing interiors for large yachts. Since 2006, she has been a key collaborator with the renowned Francesco Paszkowski Design studio in Florence, working on commissions from around the world.
The Evolution of Yacht Interiors
Casprini has witnessed a significant evolution in yacht interior design, driven by advances in construction techniques, new materials, and a shift in owner mentality. 'In the past, the style was simpler and sparser,' she notes, but today's clients are well-traveled and know what they want: to transfer the comfort and feeling of home onto their boat. This has led to demands for increasingly personalized interiors with eye-catching furniture, precious fabrics, and decorative elements. Her work on recent launches like the 40-meter aluminum yacht Panam and the sleek Severin's, both built by the historic Italian shipyard Baglietto, exemplifies this trend.
Materials, Light, and Inspiration
In her designs, Casprini favors wood for floors and panels with matte finishes, marbles for bathrooms, leather, steel, glass, and rawhide. She emphasizes the fundamental role of light on board, which transforms environments, draws spaces, and enhances corners. For inspiration, she looks far beyond the nautical world, drawing from art, architecture, and design to create a 'floating dwelling' that is precious and unique. She admires groundbreaking projects like the Feadship Savannah with its spiral staircase and the Perini Navi Panthalassa for challenging traditional spatial layouts.
