Lazzarini Pickering Architetti

Founded in 1982 by Claudio Lazzarini and Carl Pickering, this multidisciplinary Italian studio is renowned for its sophisticated yacht interiors, with a long-standing collaboration with Benetti.

Lazzarini Pickering Architetti (LPA) is a multidisciplinary studio founded in 1982 by Claudio Lazzarini and Carl Pickering, with offices in Rome and Milan. The practice has gained international renown across numerous fields of architecture and design, specializing in luxury, fashion, residential, retail, and hospitality commissions, in addition to its significant work in the nautical sector. With extensive knowledge in yachting, LPA has designed over 25 motor and sailing boats, earning prestigious accolades including the Compasso d'Oro, the AR+D Prize, and the Millennium Yacht Design Award.

A Longstanding Partnership with Benetti

LPA's collaboration with the Italian shipyard Benetti began in 2004 with the bespoke FB229 M/Y Sai Ram. This project was designed to revolutionize the standards of its time with a visionary interior approach. More recently, Lazzarini and Pickering delivered the interiors for the Motopanfilo 37M, which was soon followed by the steel Motopanfilo 45M, unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show. Their work on the Motopanfilo series revisits the elegance of classical Benetti yachts, reinterpreting original elements like bulwarks to create visual rhythm and define different areas within the open-plan spaces.

Signature Style and Materials

The studio's interior concepts are characterized by a pursuit of openness and brightness, achieved through large lateral windows and curved ceilings. Their material palette often nods to maritime tradition while introducing contemporary elements. For example, the Motopanfilo 37M evolves the tradition of wood from mahogany to a warm, light oak. In the Motopanfilo 45M, they introduced materials typically used outdoors, such as wicker and rattan, to hint at new aesthetic traditions and promote an informal, contemporary lifestyle at sea. The earlier Sai Ram project featured Orient-inspired atmospheres with refined materials like wood, leather, silk, and linen, enhanced by mirrors and crystals.
