German Studio with a Holistic Vision
Focus Yacht Design was established in Bremen, Germany, in 2007 by a group of specialists from design, architecture, and engineering backgrounds, led by directors Thomas Mühe and Henning Krohn. The studio's philosophy centers on a holistic, integrated approach to yacht design, moving away from narrow specialization to work comprehensively on both interiors and exteriors, ensuring every project reflects a cohesive and individual character.
Award-Winning Project: Soaring/Starlust
The studio's collaboration with Abeking & Rasmussen on the superyacht Soaring (now renamed Starlust) is a landmark project. The owner was won over by the exterior concept of a sporty, modern yacht with classic charm. The design features a fluid, elegant form with a distinctive sweeping line from bow to swim platform. Inside, Focus Yacht Design used a reduced palette of materials, pairing light and dark veneers to create dynamic contrast, and combined classic wood paneling with modern details like rope inlays. The project's success was recognized with the prestigious International Superyacht Society Award.
Broader Portfolio
Beyond Soaring, Focus Yacht Design has worked with German yards including Nobiskrug, Drettmann, and Abu Dhabi MAR Kiel GmbH, as well as Turkish builder Sunrise Yachts. Their notable projects include the 73m Plan B and the 70m Odessa II (now Zenith), both built by Nobiskrug, as well as the 63m Irimari and 48m Nerissa. The studio continues to develop innovative concepts like X-SEAD and WHY, exploring new possibilities in yacht layout and design.
