Dykstra Naval Architects

Dykstra Naval Architects is a leading Dutch firm renowned for its sailing yacht design. In 2026, their design for the sailing yacht Aquarius won the 'Best Naval Architecture Sailing Yachts' award at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards. The firm is also pioneering zero-emission, autonomous cargo vessels.

Masters of Sailing Yacht Naval Architecture

Dykstra Naval Architects is a premier Dutch design firm celebrated for its expertise in sailing yachts. Their work is characterized by a deep understanding of traditional naval architecture combined with cutting-edge technology to create vessels of exceptional performance and beauty. In 2026, the firm's design for the sailing yacht Aquarius won the 'Best Naval Architecture Sailing Yachts' category at the prestigious Boat International Design & Innovation Awards.

Built by Royal Huisman, Aquarius was praised by the judges as a 'clear winner' for her impressive performance, which belies a classic exterior and cruising-boat interior. She is described as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.

A Portfolio of Icons and Future Innovation

Dykstra's portfolio includes some of the most iconic sailing vessels of the modern era, such as the revolutionary Maltese Falcon and the record-breaking Black Pearl. They are also the designers behind the tall ships Clipper Stad Amsterdam and Shabab Oman II.

Looking to the future, Dykstra is a key player in sustainable maritime transport. The firm has signed a contract to design a 24-meter zero-emission, autonomous, wind-powered cargo vessel for Clippership. Set for launch in late 2026, the vessel will use twin foldable rigid wings for propulsion and will be built at KM Yachtbuilders in the Netherlands.
