Introducing Project EVO: Van der Valk’s Largest All-Custom Superyacht

Wim Van der Valk, a renowned Dutch shipyard, has commenced the construction of Project EVO, a completely custom 40-meter superyacht. This vessel will be the largest in terms of length and volume ever built by Van der Valk. The exterior was originally designed by SFG Yacht Design and Fancy by Dada, with Cristiano Gatto Design enhancing the profile and creating a meticulously detailed interior. This all-aluminium bluewater cruiser features a round bilged fast displacement hull and aims for a top speed of 24 knots.

Key Highlights

  • Size and Construction: 40 meters in length, making it the largest yacht built by Van der Valk.
  • Material: All-aluminium construction.
  • Speed: Target top speed of 24 knots.
  • Design Collaboration:
    • Exterior: SFG Yacht Design and Fancy by Dada, with enhancements by Cristiano Gatto Design.
    • Interior: Cristiano Gatto Design.
  • Naval Architecture: Involvement from Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects.
  • Classification: Built to ABS class and compliant with IMO Tier III emissions regulations.

Inspirational Concept and Design Process

The owners, experienced yacht enthusiasts, were deeply involved in the design and consultation process, resulting in an extended length and refined proportions. The design inspiration came from Franco Gianni of SFG Yacht Design and Doga Naz Cebeci from Fancy by Dada. Cristiano Gatto explains his role in the project:

“My participation began on a micro level as we worked with the owners to leverage on some specific furniture design concepts I had previously created. They were looking to recreate a similar ambience onboard their yacht and the interior design emerged from this point.”

Gatto's influence extended to the exterior design, evolving the initial concept by modifying proportions and extending the stern by approximately two meters.

Interior and Accommodation

While specific details of the bespoke interior remain undisclosed, the design process was efficient, taking around ten months from initial renders to interior concepts. Project EVO will provide luxurious accommodations for ten guests, including:

  • Main Deck: Master stateroom.
  • Lower Deck: Two twin guest suites and two VIP suites.
  • Crew Quarters: Three ensuite double crew cabins in the forepeak and a captain’s cabin on the bridge deck.
