Ken Freivokh Design

Ken Freivokh is a visionary British designer known for pushing the boundaries of yacht design, most famously creating the iconic 88-meter DynaRig sailing yacht Maltese Falcon.

Ken Freivokh is a true design visionary, renowned for his ability to push the boundaries of what is possible in yacht design. Based on the south coast of England, Freivokh masterfully combines his technical expertise with elegance and precision, often employing unconventional platforms like SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) to challenge conventions and introduce new ways of thinking. His designs are described as bold, extravagant, and unconventional, inviting onlookers to take a closer look and engage with the complex forms and lines that emerge from his unique inspirations.

An Accidental Career in Yacht Design

Freivokh's journey into yacht design was somewhat serendipitous. Originally an architect and industrial designer in London, his passion for sailing led him to purchase a small cruiser-racer yacht from Hunter Boats, but only on the condition that it be built to his own design. The finished boat was so successful that Hunter Boats received numerous requests for more vessels like it, leading to a commission to design their entire series. This success was followed by a project with Fairline to design their new Squadron series, and eventually, an exclusive ten-year contract with Sunseeker, cementing his place in the yachting world.

The Iconic Maltese Falcon

While Freivokh has an impressive portfolio, one project holds a particularly special place in his heart: the 88-meter DynaRig sailing yacht Maltese Falcon. He cites this as his favorite project because he was given the freedom to design the entire yacht, inside and out. The owner was open to suggestions, from the groundbreaking DynaRig system to a highly distinctive interior and numerous innovative technical ideas. The success of Maltese Falcon has made it a timeless masterpiece and a benchmark in superyacht design, with its influence still seen in projects today. His long-standing collaboration with German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen continues to produce concept developments that challenge the status quo.
