J.C. Espinosa

J.C. Espinosa is a yacht designer whose long-term collaboration with Horizon Yachts began when founder John Lu discovered his 145ft design. Espinosa created the P Series including the first build Miss Rose, the RP Series with naval architect Donald Blount, and the PC Power Catamaran Series with Angelo Lavranos.

Long-Term Partnership with Horizon Yachts

J.C. Espinosa's career in yacht design became closely intertwined with Horizon Yachts when founder and CEO John Lu, seeking a style for the company's transition from OEM builder to building under its own brand, focused on a 145ft design drawn by Espinosa. At the time, Espinosa was working on the proposal for Horizon when clients arrived seeking a yacht matching those same requirements. He introduced them to Horizon, leading to the first build of the P Series, the P130 Miss Rose, and establishing a collaboration that continues today.

Defining Series: RP and PC

Recognizing market demand for modern yachts with flowing lines and open sea views, Horizon again turned to Espinosa. In collaboration with the late renowned naval architect Donald L. Blount, he designed the first Raised Pilothouse RP97, creating a distinctive look that set the RP Series apart from production line yachts. The RP110, RP120, and a new RP125 for an Australian owner followed, with Espinosa making small enhancements as years passed.

Espinosa also provided styling for Horizon's Power Catamaran (PC) Series, working with power catamaran specialist Angelo Lavranos on naval architecture. The series includes 52ft, 60ft, 65ft, 68ft and larger custom power catamarans, demonstrating Espinosa's versatility across yacht types.

Continued Innovation

Espinosa remains active developing new concepts, including raised pilothouse and tri-deck designs for Horizon. His work spans motor yachts, explorer-style yachts, and power catamarans, all characterized by the flowing lines and outdoor entertaining areas that define modern yacht aesthetics.
