Ten Years of Protecting and Regenerating Vital Marine Habitats

Plymouth, UK — September 2025 – Princess Yachts, the UK’s leading luxury yacht manufacturer, is proud to mark 10 years of collaboration with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) – a decade dedicated to protecting and regenerating vital marine habitats around the UK’s coastline.

This milestone also coincides with the successful completion of Princess Yachts’ renewed three-year sponsorship of the PLYMFISH project, the latest in a series of impactful joint initiatives since the partnership began in 2015.

A DECADE OF TANGIBLE IMPACT

Over the past ten years, Princess Yachts and MCS have delivered pioneering marine conservation projects, from seabed monitoring to habitat regeneration:

  • Protecting Eddystone Reef (2015): Princess Yachts funded deepwater camera monitoring of the 25 km² Eddystone Marine Protected Area off Plymouth. The research revealed significant wildlife recovery and provided vital evidence to strengthen protections for UK marine habitats.

  • Seagrass Recovery with Advanced Mooring Systems (2019): In collaboration with the National Marine Aquarium, the partnership funded eco-friendly moorings in Cawsand and Kingsand Bay. These advanced systems dramatically reduce seabed disturbance, enabling environmentally important seagrass beds to flourish.

  • PLYMFISH – Understanding Local Marine Life (2022–2025): Princess Yachts supported MCS in mapping Plymouth Sound’s marine species using innovative Baited Remote Underwater Video (BRUV). This research identified key habitats for fish and other species, informing targeted conservation measures and stronger protections for vulnerable areas.

BUILDING A LEGACY BEYOND THE WATERLINE

The partnership’s work has influenced policy, strengthened Marine Protected Areas across the UK, and provided scalable solutions such as Seagrass Advanced Mooring Systems — now being adopted across the Atlantic coast.

Gareth Cunningham, Director of Conservation and Policy at the Marine Conservation Society, commented:

“Our partnership with Princess Yachts has been invaluable in protecting and regenerating our ocean. From our early aspirations to protect seagrass through Advanced Mooring Systems, the partnership has gone from strength to strength, helping not only to regenerate vital habitats but to advocate for the protection of our seas. Our learning from this work is already being applied in Wales and soon will become a staple addition to our ambitions to regenerate habitats all along the UK’s Atlantic Coast.”

Simon Clare, Executive Director of Brand and Marketing at Princess Yachts, added:

“Our decade-long partnership with the Marine Conservation Society has been nothing short of transformative. Together, we’ve not only deepened scientific understanding of our local marine environments but also driven real-world change, protecting vital habitats, supporting sustainable marine management, and leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the waterline. It’s a collaboration we’re immensely proud of and one that truly reflects our shared commitment to safeguarding the oceans for future generations.”
