Claydon Reeves Design Studio
Claydon Reeves, founded in 2010 by Brits James Claydon and Mike Reeves, brings automotive design influence to yachting. From their Lymington and London studios, they design interiors and exteriors for projects including the 34m Solis, 110m Radiance, 46m sailing yacht Exo, and the Aeroboat SV12 powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
Automotive Influence in Yachting
Claydon Reeves Design Studio was formed in 2010 by Brits James Claydon and Mike Reeves, both beginning their careers in the automotive industry—an influence clearly visible in their highly sculpted exterior lines and use of hydroforms. Before founding the studio, Claydon worked with Redman Whiteley Dixon and Donald Starkey, giving the team over 30 years' combined luxury yacht design experience. Operating from Lymington, Hampshire, with a recently opened London office, the studio handles both interior and exterior design.
Signature Projects
Past projects range from the exterior styling and interior of the 34m Solis, built at Mulder Shipyard in the Netherlands, to the concept, interior, and exterior design of the 110m Nobiskrug Radiance. The studio has collaborated with Pendennis on the 59m concept Meteora and with Dykstra Naval Architects on the beautiful 46m sailing yacht Exo, featuring a carbon and glass chassis giving the impression of being inside a sea creature's ribcage.
Aeroboat and Design Philosophy
Claydon Reeves is also known for the SV12, a 16.7m dayboat for British manufacturer Aeroboat powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine from a Spitfire. The studio advocates for 'total design,' extending their attention to tableware, cutlery, and glassware—details they consider crucial to the onboard luxury experience. For Solis, they created 104 versions of the owner's logo before settling on the final design applied to all crockery.
