Welcome to the Modern Streaming Era: Videoworks Delivers Fully Digital AV/IT System on M/Y Akula

La Spezia, Italy – Akula, one of four Baglietto 52-metre T-Line projects, sets a new benchmark in onboard entertainment thanks to a fully digital AV/IT architecture designed by Videoworks. Featuring seamless streaming, advanced connectivity, and intuitive operation, the system transforms how owners and guests experience content at sea.
MyInfo: The Future of Streaming at Sea
“At the heart of the system is our MyInfo platform, designed to handle both audio and video content in a way that reflects the modern streaming era,” says Giovanni Varone, Yachting Sales Manager at Videoworks.
Built on a robust Cisco network backbone, MyInfo distributes all AV content over IP. This eliminates the need for HDMI or RF cabling: televisions run Videoworks’ proprietary app, directly streaming encoded content across the Ethernet-based network. The result is a simpler, cleaner installation with a centralised rack system just aft of the wheelhouse, ensuring easy access for maintenance.
The system supports offline content, on-demand platforms like Prime Video, and pay-per-view channels via dedicated SkyStream boxes, which encode and stream content directly to any TV on board.
Audio in Perfect Sync: Dante Protocol
For audio, Videoworks adopted the Dante protocol, the industry standard for professional-grade audio-over-IP. Dante guarantees ultra-low latency (under one millisecond) and perfect synchronisation across all speakers.
“Aboard this magnificent vessel, sound flows seamlessly, creating an immersive experience in every corner,” adds Varone. From salons to open decks, music resonates in harmony—whether streamed from a guest’s phone or played throughout common areas.
Always Connected: Starlink and WaveHunter
Connectivity is equally advanced. Akula carries two Starlink high-performance antennas, complemented by Poynting’s WaveHunter system with 24 directional antennas. Together, they capture 5G signals from shore stations and extend coverage several miles offshore.
The setup ensures high-speed, reliable internet close to land, while offshore the system automatically locks onto the strongest available signal. Future integration with OneWeb adds another layer of redundancy and performance.
Designed for Simplicity and Space
Ease of use and discreet integration were priorities. With all components centralised in two racks, guest spaces remain uncluttered, while engineers can perform maintenance without disrupting life onboard.
“The centralised racks simplify both installation and ongoing service,” explains Liana Cavallini, Systems Engineer at Videoworks. “It’s a solution that maximises comfort for guests while ensuring operational efficiency.”
Each entertainment zone also operates independently, allowing guests to adjust volume and ambiance to their preference—whether creating a lively party atmosphere or an intimate, quiet retreat.
A New Standard in Yacht Entertainment
With its full digital backbone, seamless streaming capabilities, and state-of-the-art connectivity, Akula represents the future of AV/IT in luxury yachting. By combining innovation with ease of use, Videoworks has delivered a system designed not just for today’s streaming era, but for years to come.
