Heesen’s Project Orion: The Future of Hybrid Yachting

Heesen Yachts proudly announces the launch of Project Orion (YN 20750), a 50-metre all-aluminium hybrid superyacht. Launched at Oss on December 6th, this cutting-edge yacht is set to redefine efficiency, performance, and luxury when she debuts in Spring 2025.

🚀 Key Highlights:

  • Length: 50m | Hybrid Aluminium Construction
  • Gross Tonnage: Below 500GT
  • Exterior Design: Omega Architects
  • Interior Design: Cristiano Gatto
  • Accommodation: 12 guests in six staterooms
  • Engineering: Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) by Van Oossanen
  • Performance:
    • Top speed: 16.3 knots
    • Fuel Efficiency: 98 L/hr at 12 knots | 45 L/hr at 10 knots (hybrid mode)
    • Engines: 2x MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III)

A Vision of Innovation & Sustainability

Project Orion is the latest addition to Heesen’s successful 50-metre FDHF hybrid series, offering an ultra-efficient, eco-conscious approach to superyachting.

The Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), developed by Van Oossanen, ensures unparalleled efficiency across all speeds. Combined with lightweight aluminium construction, this hull design reduces drag, allowing Orion to achieve superior performance while lowering fuel consumption.

In hybrid mode, the yacht consumes just 45 litres per hour at 10 knots, an industry-leading achievement for a 50-metre superyacht displacing 295 tons (light load).

Striking Design & Bespoke Interiors

Project Orion’s exterior by Omega Architects features a near-vertical bow and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, blending modern aesthetics with exceptional seaworthiness. The design enhances both visual appeal and smooth navigation in challenging conditions.

Inside, Cristiano Gatto’s luxurious interior is designed to maximise natural light and panoramic sea views.

The layout includes:

  • Master suite on the main deck
  • Full-beam VIP suite
  • Four additional guest staterooms
  • Expansive open bulwarks for an uninterrupted connection to the sea

Industry Leaders Weigh In

Ruud van der Stroom, Heesen’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented:

“Project Orion offers an extraordinary opportunity for clients seeking a hybrid superyacht, crafted with the precision and quality of Dutch engineering. By summer, Orion will be ready to cruise the oceans, setting new standards in luxury and performance.”

Final Testing & Debut

Project Orion is now in the commissioning phase, preparing for extensive sea trials in the North Sea by mid-February.

Her highly anticipated Spring 2025 delivery will mark another milestone in Heesen’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance yachting.
