Sunseeker shipyard started building boats in the English town of Poole in 1969.
Before starting his own company, Mr Robert Braithwaite worked at the company which sold small motorboats imported from the USA. But then the US builder decided to stop boat selling in Europe, and Robert Braithwaite was temporarily on the ropes. Being a visionary and realising the market potential, Robert decided to buy moulds from the American company, bring them to Europe to build fibreglass boats in the UK. Right from the early 70-s, Sunseeker is giving buyers precisely what they want to get. It was at this time that Robert’s younger brother John joined the company. He was assigned the position of Product Development Director, a status he held for over 50 years until his retirement in 2019.
This early success allowed the company to fulfil the demands of the growing sports cruiser market. Real success came when Sunseeker made a bold move for Mediterranean boating enthusiasts and started working with famous powerboat designer Don Shead. From the mere UK-based company, the brand evolved to Sunseeker International. Through its history of more than 50 years, Sunseeker became the epitome of luxury yachts and performance boats, marked by multiple international awards.
